9v9 Team 2008/09 Season

The Springfields under 12’s 9v9 team was formed in 2008/09 as a result of a large number of children in the Ashton, Lea, Ingol, Cottam areas wanting to play football. Springfields already had an 11-aside team so the Springfield Secretary Dave Harrison came up with the idea of entering a 9 a-side team.

Springfields 9v9 started the season in September 2008. Their manger, Ismail Hafeji was brought in at the start of the season and like the boys was completely new to Junior League football.

This first season has been both enjoyable and very rewarding for all concerned with the 9v9 side. It has brought not only the boys together as a football team but parents, grandparents and other children alike who came down in all weathers to support them and encourage them along. An excellent community spirit has grown and developed through having formed this football team.

My thanks and congratulations goes out to the team, who worked tremendously hard over the season to clinch the championship. The team played some breath taking football at times along with some nail biting, frustrating clinchers as well. Together they scored over 100 goals, which each and every player contributed to, even the goalie.
